Episode 42: [Replay of Episode 5] How to Create Traditions for Día de los Muertos with Zarai Imports

It is the end of October and that means that we are getting ready for el dia de los muertos! Being that we are days away from this beautiful tradition, this week, I decided to replay Episode 5, which was an Instagram Live I did literally a year ago with Zarai and Henry Ramirez from Zarai Imports in Chicago’s Pilsen Neighborhood.

Zarai Imports is a small business that sells authentic wardrobe and artisan objects from México. If you live in the Chicago area and need to do some last-minute shopping to set up your altar, they have everything you need from serapes to el papel picado! Please support them as this family has been running their business for over 20 years and they are the most friendly store owners I’ve ever met!

As someone who didn’t grow up with this holiday, I now want to implement this con mi familia so that our little ones can understand the significance and the rich history it has.

Henry and Zarai share a lot of tips and remind us that there isn’t a right or wrong way of setting up an altar. Each household has their traditions but it is important to know the overall history of Día de Muertos and what each ofrenda means so that we can continue to educate newer generations of the significance of this celebration.

How does your family celebrate el dia de los muertos? Let me know by sending me a DM or an email on podcast@vivalamami.com and I will be happy to share this on social media. I think our traditions should be shared to those who didn’t grow up with this holiday.

I’m excited to replay this episode/Instagram Live I did with Henry and Zarai from Zarai Imports as you’ll learn about the history behind Día de los Muertos and how you can set up an altar to start or continue this tradición con tu familia!

You can follow Zarai Imports on Instagram or Facebook.
